Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back families to the 2017-18 school year!  I hope that you found time to relax, have fun and enjoy your family during the summer break.  You can be assured that the staff at Discovery are eager to see your children and get another successful year started!   Our wonderful custodians have been working diligently over the summer and our school looks beautiful!  Please join us in thanking them for all their hard work.

We have some new faces on the Discovery campus.  Kathi Ebeling will be with our 1st grade team, and Andrea Albergottie will be the addition to our 2nd grade team.  We also have Becky Farris as our SDC teacher, as well as Jarrett Clifton as our school psychologist.  Please join me in welcoming our new staff members!

We will be continuing our attendance incentive program.  Attendance is a critical part of the success for students and we want to partner with you to assist your children in acquiring the necessary skill set that will help them be successful at Discovery, in secondary school, college and the world of work.  Certificate, assemblies and end of the year medal presentations, as well as classroom acknowledgements, are all a part of the effort.  I look forward to seeing your children recognized for their efforts with being at school each and every day on time and staying for the entire school day.  The following chart shows the requirements needed to receive a medal at the end of the school year.  You will receive additional information in the next few days, but the important thing is to make sure your children are at school on time and that they stay for the entire day.

As you have notice, we have a lot of road construction around our school.  Amethyst Road should be completed soon.  Luna Road began construction right before school started.  We will be working with this situation for the month of September.  Arrival and dismissal times are the busiest times at school.  We have over 900 students at Discovery so you can understand the heavy traffic during these times.  We ask that you follow the procedures that have been put in place for the safety of your children and all staff and parents.

Discovery is a great school because of our great families and parent support.  We believe you are an important part of our team!  We are here to serve you.  If we can be of assistance to you, please call or come by the office.  Our school phone number is (760) 843-3577.  We look forward to seeing each and every one of you.  Together, we can be the strong team needed to benefit your child for years to come!

Sincerely,

Linda Rueter, Principal
